What We Do

Writer’s resistance can freeze authors from their craft and isolate them from community. Whether resistance is caused by perfectionism, fear of failure, or simply not being able to find the time or structure to do it alone, Virtually Writing can help. Our weekly sessions revolve around writing and sharing your work within the group alongside editing peer deliverables. If you have a short story or a few chapters you’ve been working on, or want to create, this is the time and place to share it with others and have it constructively workshopped and supported. Fiction, nonfiction, scriptwriting, and poetry are all welcome here.

Read.

Weekly short stories will be assigned prior to class, alongside editing peer deliverables. Reading deepens empathy, strengthens essential skills like grammar and dialogue, and grants writers permission to experience and create different styles of work.

Write.

Each participant will have an opportunity to submit their personal work and have it workshopped by peers. During class group prompts will drive new and in-the-moment pieces, ensuring that you are actively writing. Class time is precious and productive. You will be able to create something new each time.

Share.

Getting constructive feedback and positive reinforcement on your hard work will strengthen you as a writer. Commitment to the craft and permission to keep going are everything. You are welcome to share your work on a voluntary basis aloud to the class or via written word after prompt writing.
